Main Mare Premium Select Mares
The AHHA has added another studbook category for mares so that we may recognize breeding excellence. To be eligible for listing in the Main Mare Premium Select Book, candidates must attain a minimum score of 50 points at an official AHHA Approval with no subgroup less than six and a score of seven or more in type. Mares that have already attained these scores will be recognized as MMPS mares in the AHHA studbook.
Breeders wishing to have their mares re-bonited may enter their mare into the 2003 Approvals. Judges will score the horse without seeing the old score. The mare will then receive whichever score is higher. That means that your late-blooming horse can be re-judged without risk. Remember that all approvals applications are to be postmarked by July 15th (or August 15th with double fees). AHHA Approvals forms are available at www.holsteiner.com.
The Mare Performance Test (MPT) evaluates rideability, gaits and jumping ability under saddle. In the flat work, the mare must show freedom and regularity of gaits, impulsion, balance and willingness, and the ability to lengthen in the trot. For jumping under saddle, the mare will be scored on technique, scope and willingness. Mares will not be unduly penalized for “green horse” mistakes.
The free jumping portion of the MPT evaluates the mare's jumping talent, scope and form. The jump chute will consist of a ground pole, vertical, square oxer, and ramped oxer. The distances will be approximately 9-18-24 feet. Height of the fences will be determined by the judges and the owner/agent of the mare. Fences may be raised on request.
What mares are eligible for the Mare Performance Test?
· Any mare already in the Mare, Main Mare or Main Mare Premium Studbook of the AHHA or is entered for boniting at that approval site is eligible to do the test and receive a designator of having passed the test.
· Those mares already in the Mare Book with a score of 42, the Main Mare Book with a score of 45, or the Main Mare Book Premium with a score of 49 may take the test. If they successfully complete the Mare Performance Test, they will be upgraded to the appropriate book with the performance designation. (NOTE: Mares must be pre-entered in the Mare Performance Test in order to participate—they cannot be entered at the site!)
Is the Mare Performance Test offered at all approval sites?
No, the Mare Performance Test is only offered at those sites that can accommodate the test and only at those sites where a minimum of three (3) mares have pre-entered the Mare Performance Division. AHHA Approvals forms are available at www.holsteiner.com.
The AHHA has developed a set of criteria for the conduct of a very limited number of alternative approvals sites. This program is designed to meet the needs of smaller potential sites and/or remote sites unable to meet the requirements for the regular approvals tour.
Requirements for hosting these sites are:
1. Site will meet minimum guarantee of $1,500 in approvals revenue.
2. Site host must submit an application to host a regular approvals site on tour; Breeding Committee will select candidates for the program based on the best interest of the association.
3. Site must meet minimum guarantee or pay difference 30 days in advance.
4. Site must pay for judges' and administrator's coach air travel, motel room (of acceptable quality), ground transport between airport, site and hotel, and judging day lunch.
5. Site must be scheduled outside of regular approval tour timeframe and must not be w/in 250 miles of a scheduled site.
6. All approval entries are due to AHHA office not less than 45 days before the special approvals site. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the breeding committee at double fees rate. Incomplete entries may be rejected.
7. All horses inspected must meet the same standards as that of other approval sites.
We are dedicated to ensuring that the Impulsion magazine remains the same high quality source of information on the American Holsteiner horse, on breeding and the issues that impact breeders, horses, and your association.
The Impulsion magazine is completely dependent upon member support and advertising. Only through the generous support of members willing to advertise their horses, farms, products, and services are we able to bring the Impulsion to you four times a year. Please show your support for your breed, your farm and your association by taking out an advertisement in the Impulsion.
For those breeders who do not have advertisements already, we are able to provide complimentary advertising design service for you. An advertising order form is included in this Update. Place your advertising/Market Place order today. Deadline for the Fall issue is August 15th.
The AHHA is looking to develop a full-color 2004 Holsteiner calendar. The calendar would be 11 x 17 and we want to feature the best the breed has to offer. The calendar will also feature key dates and reminders and breeding information.

We are selling picture/advertising space in the calendar for $500 per 11 x 8 ½ page. Standard listings will include a color photo, pedigree and contact information.
Because the AHHA is planning to distribute these calendars to all AHHA members and will market these calendars at shows and venues outside the Holsteiner community, these calendars will be distributed widely. Imagine your Horse’s picture hanging in barns, homes and offices across the country. With a price below magazine advertising, the AHHA calendar can provide tremendous value.
The AHHA will only be able to produce these calendars if there is sufficient advertising interest, so please sign up before the August 1, 2003 deadline.
