UPDATE
2003 AHHA Annual Meeting
The 2003 American Holsteiner Horse Association held its annual meeting February 7-9 in Phoenix, Arizona. Highlights of the meeting included the annual AHHA Awards Banquet at which the association recognized those Holsteiner horses that excelled in competition at all levels. A complete list of winners is on the AHHA web site at www.holsteiner.com
Summarized Board Proceedings
The AHHA Board of Directors also met on February 8 & 9 to review the progress made in the last year, to proactively address future issues confronting the association, and to develop policies and procedures concentrating on the betterment of the breed and the association. A summarization of the proceedings appears later in this Update.
New Fee Schedule
The AHHA announces the 2003 Schedule of Fees. In order to continue to provide a consistently high level of service to AHHA members, some fees -- many of which haven't been adjusted since 1996 or before -- have been increased slightly. The board of directors has been extremely sensitive to both the needs of our member breeders and to the funding levels necessary to keep the association viable. As such, the board has been conservative in determining 2003 fees.
Impulsion
We are dedicated to ensuring that the Impulsion magazine remains the same high quality source of information on the American Holsteiner horse, on breeding and the issues that impact breeders, horses, and your association.
The Impulsion magazine is completely dependent upon member support and advertising. Only through the generous support of members willing to advertise their horses, farms, products, and services are we able to bring the Impulsion to you four times a year. Please show your support for your breed, your farm and your association by taking out an advertisement in the Impulsion.
For those breeders who do not have advertisements already, we are able to provide complimentary advertising design service for you. An advertising order form is included in this Update. Place your advertising/Market Place order today. Deadline for the Spring issue is March 15th.
AHHA Mare Book
The AHHA Board of Directors has authorized the publication of the first-ever AHHA Mare Book. Most breeders know that the AHHA mare division of the AHHA Studbook currently exists only as a database and that only the Stallion portion is printed and distributed.
Recognizing that mare owners have a desire to have information on their broodmares published as well, the AHHA Board has directed the development of a comprehensive 2004 AHHA Studbook that includes divisions for both Stallions and Mares.
This book will become a vital reference for breeders and will allow prospective breeders an additional opportunity to do more research on our breed and the outstanding horses available for breeding. It will also provide mare owners the unique opportunity to provide information on their mares and advertise the availability of those horses for potential outside breedings.
More information will be available in the weeks upcoming.

Board of Directors
Annual Meeting Summary
February 8, 2003
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following is a summary of actions taken at the board of directors meeting on February 8, 2003. The official meeting record is the full version of the minutes, which will be reviewed and approved at the next meeting of the board. All breeding rule changes have been given preliminary approval only and will not be enacted until the next board of directors meeting. Each rule change/new rule will be described in detail after final enactment.
Board Summary
The board voted to expand the AHHA Executive Committee by one member.
The board voted to remove the foal crop veterinary inspection requirement mandated by paragraph 3.2.5.2 of the AHHA Breeding Rules.
The temporary breeding permits for stallions due to expire in 2003 were extended for one year pending final approval of the rescission of the foal crop veterinary inspection requirement.
The board approved the institution of an annual mare activation fee of $40 beginning in the 2004 breeding year. At that time, mares must be activated in the breeding year in order for the foal to receive papers. Mares may be retroactively activated for $50.
The board directed the development and publication of mare divisions to the AHHA Studbooks and the development of standardized listings for all activated mares. These divisions will be published concurrently each year with the AHHA Stallion Roster.
The board voted to eliminate horses scoring less than 39 bonit points from the provisional mare book beginning with the 2003 Approvals. This would not affect any horses currently in the provisional mare book.
The board developed guidelines whereby preliminary stallions could partake in the 30 or 100 day test and, should the stallion score above a defined threshold, be able to forego final judging under saddle in obtaining a permanent breeding license.
The board approved the 2003 Rate Schedule for AHHA Services.
The board approved hiring three judges for the 2003 AHHA Approvals tour.
The board voted to develop a new Main Mare Premium Select category for mares scoring 50 bonit points or above with a "Type" score of seven or more.
The board of directors voted to grant temporary breeding permits to the stallions Coconut Grove, Condios and Cor Noir upon the owners activating the stallions.
The board voted to upgrade the mare Ranara from Certificate of Pedigree to full registration.
