Special Awards for Merit and Premium Foals

The 1996 winner of the $250 certificate is: Karen McDowell of Tacoma Washington! CONGRATULATIONS!

If your foal is a Merit Foal this year, you could be a winner! A random drawing will give someone a certificate authorizing a $250.00 discount off the stud fee for participating stallions. (If not breeding in 1997, the certificate is transferable to someone else.) The participating stallions (as of June 1, 1996) are:

Premium foals and yearlings will continue to receive a $100.00 cash award. IN ADDITION, for the first foal to receive a score of 9 & 9, there will be a substantial cash award. For every year not awarded, the fund will grow!

New Stallions - Approved in 1996

The AHHA approved three new stallions. They will be activated for 1997 and have been given 'Permits' for breeding. After their Foal Crop inspections and the results of their 'performance test', they may be given their permanent license to breed.. See the section above that discusses the Stallion requirement for more detail. Back to the Top

Mares: Site Champions and Reserve Champions

The following mares were awarded the honor of being either Site Champion or Site Reserve Champion. All had to achieve Main Mare Book or Main Mare Book Premium to qualify. To achieve Main Mare Book, a mare must rate a total bonit score of 43 points or higher, with no single score lower than 5. To achieve Main Mare Book Premium, a mare must rate a total bonit score of 46 or higher, with no single score lower than 5. Congratulations to all Site Champions and Reserve Champions!!

Forty Two (42) Mares were admitted to the Main Mare Book, Five (5) of these were designated as Main Mare Book Premium. I do not know how many mares were presented, nor how many were admitted to the Mare Book.

Main Mare Book PREMIUM Mares

These Mares deserve special recognition. They each achieved Bonits (total) over 46 points!!! These mares are precious and few. Congratulations to the breeders and the owners!

Forty Two (42) Mares were admitted to the Main Mare Book, Five (5) of these were designated as Main Mare Book Premium. I do not know how many mares were presented, nor how many were admitted to the Mare Book.

Premium Foals (weanlings)

To be rated a Premium Foal, a weanling must rate a total of 15 points or higher, from the two scores awarded for conformation and movement, with neither score lower than 5.

One Hundred and Forty (140) Foals (Weanlings) were presented for inspection this year. Many more than this were registered with the AHHA (I do not know the count).
